The Old Chapel
A two-storey extension to the existing house incorporating a glazed link to create more habitable space and solve issues with the existing internal layout.
The proposal was to demolish the existing tiny study and construct a new extension with a guest room/study on the ground floor and a bedroom on the first floor. These rooms were connected to the existing house by means of a two-storey glazed link. This link provides a modest extension to the dining room (the original chapel), allowing it to connect to a new terrace in the back garden via a glazed door. At first floor level, the new bedroom is connected to the existing house by means of a bridge/sitting area through the glazed link. The original end bedroom was converted into a shower room, store and corridor. The natural lighting to the new first floor corridor has been improved by replacing the existing roof window with two larger ones. Four triple glazed roof windows of the same size were provided in the new bedroom to allow in plenty of natural daylight and views out over the back garden while maximising thermal performance.
